We have 1 Barred Rock that either ‘coughs’ or has a ‘hic-up’ sound and has for the last several weeks. It is the only sound she makes, but she will hic-up every few minutes. Any idea what is going on and what to do about it? None of the other hens do this.
Also, do you suggest putting garlic in their water every day to help with parasites?

Thanks, Sharon

I have over 600 free range pastured chickens for my egg business. Some of my chickens refuse to roost in their hen house. So I have a small flock of 30+who are my tree flock. I have pulled them out of the trees everyday for a couple weeks and then gave up. Just try to keep the predators at bay and get a rooster to watch and manage the flock. Cheers.

I would use the heavy gauge square wire (small squares) instead of the Chicken wire for coyote problems. A determined and hungry coyote will get through a chicken wire fence.
