Hi Sylvia, Chickens are the fad right now. Tons of Urban folk are raising them. 🙂

I have heard it is becoming much more popular to have your own chickens, even in town. It would be best to check any regulations before starting up a flock. I believe most city/town regulations limit the chickens to HENS ONLY (so buy pullet chicks) and No Roosters. Also they may have a flock limit, around 10 or 12 tops (would be plenty of eggs produced for a household). Other possible regulations might be the cage or housing for the hens to be kept penned vs. free. (the movable tractor cage is semi-freedom for the hens)

Maybe if someones City Code forbids chickens they could start a petition to have it changed! I like that idea! Chickens rule! Keep on cluckin’

Thanks, Sandra! Chickens are great to decorate with. My house is filled with pictures and tchotchkes. 🙂

Does your city code forbid chickens within city limits? There are many cities that allow, even celebrate, backyard chickens. Minneapolis, MN even hosts a backyard chicken tour. A friend of mine participates.

Here’s an article about it:

Can’t have them where I live. I used to have so many of them, all sizes, in my kitchen and dining room. Love your story!
