I was prompt with a response yesterday on the post I made concerning the book of James verses 1-12. A person said they had put up with the occasional ~Blessings~ I use at the end of my sentences sometimes but they could not tolerate this kind of stuff.
Blessings Mercy is hopefully a way for us to understand the difference a little better.
This made me start thinking about Blessings and Mercy Many times we confuse “Blessings” with “Mercy”. These are two different things and I thought about them through the evening and this morning. Hopefully I can help shed some light on the difference.
There are many verses in the Bible that mentions God’s Blessing or Blessings for His people! Here are just a couple.
Deuteronomy 28:2 And all these blessings shall come on thee, and overtake thee, if thou shalt hearken unto the voice of the Lord thy God.
2 Chronicles 7:14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.
Ephesians 1:3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ:
We have the opportunity to receive God’s blessings but as with anything we do in life there are requirements.
Basically anything we get from the government to help us has requirements! Food Stamps, SSI, Medicare, Medicaid, Assisted Housing, Etc. Everything has requirements. These are blessings and are very helpful to those who really need them! But again, you have to qualify! One thing to remember is, you may fool the Government to get these things but god is never fooled!
So it is with God’s blessings. There are requirements, you have to qualify!
2 Chronicles 7:14 above is a good example as is Deuteronomy 28:2 above. You don’t just get God’s blessings, you have to qualify to get them! They are not just handed out freely to everyone! We have to obey God to get them.
Some people are better at this than others and these people find more blessings in their lives than others who do not obey God very well. You see, God has children just like you and I. Some are very obedient and some are not. Some of us take more time and correction to learn to become obedient! This cost us blessings!
Now, God’s Mercy,
Psalm 32: 10 Many sorrows shall be to the wicked: but he that trusteth in the Lord, mercy shall compass him about.
Psalm 41: 4 I said, Lord, be merciful unto me: heal my soul; for I have sinned against thee.
Psalm 136: 2 O give thanks unto the God of gods: for his mercy endureth for ever.
Lamentations 3:
22 It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not.
23 They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.
Without God’s Mercy we would all perish! He is merciful in the fact that he has protected us from harm! He is merciful that he has raised us up from our sick bed and kept us from dying! He is merciful that he protected us in the automobile accident!
God’s is full of mercy and keeps us safe daily. We cannot keep ourselves and if it were not for the mercies of God we would perish from the earth!
God has many blessings in store for them who love him and will bless those who obey him while here!
I have heard the term God blessed me so I didn’t get hurt or killed in that accident or in whatever dire situation they were in but it was really God extending his mercy to them. It no doubt was a blessing to survive and a blessing to the family, but it was by God’s mercy that they didn’t perish!
I hope I have managed to help us understand the difference today. I hope you can stand the occasional ~Blessings~ I leave at the page bottom also. If you can’t accept a small token like this I am saddened for you because you may never know the true ~Blessings~ of God.
~Blessings~ to you all!
