Original Breeding For Fur and Meat

These beauties were originally bread for stews and such. The meat was tasty and folks liked it.

The problem, they cost way too much to feed for the meat they produced. So they now are bred for pets and show animals as they havea long lifespan of 8 to 10 years!

Where Did They Come From?

Most authorities agree that they originated in Belgium in the 16th century.

Prior to the 1890's, travelers reported seeing large rabbits like these in Flanders.

After that, they crossed the big pond of waters and came to the good ole USA!

Now golks all around the world enjoy these beauties as pets and show animals!

There is actually a National Federation of Flemish Rabbit Breeders. There are books on raising these rabbits as well!

Will you be owning one anytime soon?
