We only have one life to live here on this earth and how we live it makes a great impact on others. Even though we do not see all the good or bad, it will all be revealed in the end of this age.
Did you know that every single person on this earth is called to be a messenger? Your purpose and my purpose may be completely different in how we are to do it, but the outcome is always supposed to be the same. We are called to spread the news. We are fishers of men. (Matt 4:18-22)
Back when I was in high school, my church’s youth group performed a skit for Fine Arts (https://www.faf.ag.org/). The skit was about a football team who had one shot at winning the Lombardi trophy. The team was doing whatever they could with that one chance to make sure that it would happen. The point that we were trying to make was that we only had one life, and one shot to get the big trophy. We were using metaphors to share with others that we as Christians only have one life, and only one shot to live it. What were we going to do with that life to make sure that we were victorious at the end?
Spreading God’s Word can be scary. Very scary. As a matter of fact, I even get scared sometimes. We have to constantly remind ourselves that it is Satan putting that fear into us. Of course he doesn’t want people to know they can be forgiven. Jesus says, “The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give life in all its fullness.” (John 10:10) Jesus wants to give LIFE.. ETERNAL LIFE… to EVERYONE.. and he is calling us to share that hope with anyone and everyone who will listen (and those that reject it as well).
Matthew 28:19 tells us that we are to go out and make disciples of ALL NATIONS, baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son, and of the Holy Spirit. He stresses this again in Mark 16:15 stating that we are to go out into ALL of the WORLD and proclaim his Gospel.
How do we do this exactly? Well, Ephesians 5:1 tells us to be imitators of God. We are to walk in love as Christ loves us. We are to be kind. We are to be patient. We are to be DIFFERENT. Non-Christians should be able to spot us like a sore thumb. We are to be of the world, but not in the world. We are called to love the least of these, and to look at the world through the eyes of our Savior.
I think what imitates people the most is walking up to a complete stranger and witnessing to them. Or maybe praying for a lady in the grocery store. While I do think that these things are very very important, I think God can also use the way we live our lives as a bold message. In everything that we do, the light of Jesus should radiate.
The point of this message today is for all of us to take a step back and look at the lives we’ve been given. We are here on this Earth for such a short period. What have we already done, and what more can we do to share the love of Christ with those around us?
