It is all inside! J.C. Penny used to run a commercial that the punch line was, “It’s all inside”
As I was reading the book of John this morning I was thinking how Jesus was explaining to Nicodemus about the spiritual aspects of being born again! Although Nicodemus was an elder in the Jewish Community he didn’t understand the statement, “Ye must be born again”! (John 3: 1-10)
The Jewish leaders were the ones who were entrusted to interpret the law and were the spiritual leaders of the communities where they lived. They were the ones who should have been prepared for the coming of Jesus! They had the Law and the Prophets to read and should have know of the coming of Jesus. Yet they missed it!
Jesus told Nicodemus, Ye must be born again! A simple yet profound thought! Even Nicodemus being a leader did not understand this concept of “being born again” “How can a man after he is old enter into his mothers womb again”? He just didn’t get the concept that Jesus was not talking about fleshly birth but a new spiritual birth.
Jesus explains in this chapter that the things that are of the flesh are of the world and things that are of the spirit are not of this world but given from God in heaven. Jesus ask Nicodemus, “Art thou a master of Israel, and knowest not these things? Jesus went on to say, “If I have told you earthly things, and ye believe not, how shall ye believe, if I tell you of heavenly things”? Ye must be born again is certainly a Heavenly thing and it went right over Nicodemus head! It was too simple to understand!
You see, there is the spiritual part of an individual that is not visible and you can not know them until you see their works! You cannot judge people by their skin color, clothes they wear, what family they came from, etc. It is all inside! Remember the J.C. Penny punch line was, “It’s all inside” Well that is the way with the spirit of God, “It’s all inside”.
How we live our lives is a reflection of what we have inside. The old saying, “you are what you eat” is a perfect example of this! If we feast on the spiritual things of God we will be spiritual and our works will show it. If we feast on the things of this world and the evil it offers we will be worldly and our works will show it! You are what you eat! “It’s all inside”
Well, if you want an inside that seeks the light and honors God and our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, Ye must be born again! Not my opinion, God’s word! infallible and will never pass away! Once you are born again you can truly say, “It’s all inside”. God’s Holy Spirit resides inside and works to make you a better christian daily.
There will always be setbacks, trial, temptations, etc,because we live in the flesh. If you have been born again you have and advocate with our Father, Jesus Christ. When we fail we can go to him and ask forgiveness and get back up and forge ahead. As a friend of mine, Larry Deane owner of Side Income Blogging says in a wonderful written article, “get up and brush your knees off” knowing you will do better this time! I am glad to say, I have been “Born again” and have an advocate with my Heavenly Father.
