Here at Chicken Review we think it is important to raise Healthy Chickens. No matter what you are raising you need to give it the best care possible. When it comes to taking care of Chickens that are in turn taking care of us with eggs, and meat it should be of great concern to make them as healthy as possible. I read this article on Raising Healthy Chickens and wanted to share it with you.
In an article by a fellow Chicken grower like yourself the author wrote, Our chickens we raise for meat were gaining weight so fast it was affecting the leg tendons and causing problems with the chicken’s feet. Sometimes causing broken legs and even heart attacks. The weight went on too fast for the Chickens frame (Bone makeup) or heart to keep up with the weight!
We here at Chicken Review found this to be of a lot of importance to the grower who grows for meat production.
The writer ran a stud farm as well and knew that calcium and phosphorus ratios were important in the diets of animals. They began to tinker with the chicken diets and came up with this solution, A flake of leafy alfalfa placed in the coop and supplementing it with pigeon grit to help with the digestive system and a daily hand full of cotton seed meal started early in their life eliminated the handicap and mortality problems.
This diet not only helped the handicap and mortality problem abut the added protein made the chicken put on more weight and dress out heavier than usual. This made much better weight and much better-tasting birds for them.
This next part has nothing to do with Chickens or Chicken Reviews but we thought it important also as it deals with the diet!
They raised Turkeys also and started this same diet with them and it made their Turkeys gain more weight and dress out heavier. It was a win situation all the way around for them.
I read this article in a magazine like the Fresh Eggs Daily: Raising Happy, Healthy Chickens…Naturally
