The Wyandotte Chicken is a very popular breed of chicken and is found all across the United States and other countries. They are very good layers, good for meat and Docile. These are what are called dual purpose birds. This makes them a very good choice for the farm or backyard chicken grower. These wonderful chickens have been raised by farmers and country living folk for many years for the meat and eggs they offer. They are also a very pretty bird with an attractive body shape.

The Wyandotte Chicken is a medium sized chicken with a rose comb and clean legs. They are bred in several color patterns and make pretty show birds as well. They make wonderful mothers and lay brown or tan eggs.
These birds have broad loose fitting feathers with the vent area being fluffy! The legs of the Wyandott is yellow. The Wyandotte Chicken will lay around 200 eggs a year. Sometimes you may get up to 240 if lucky! These eggs are brown or brown tinted and she herself weighs about 6lb when grown. Her Rooster will weigh in about 8 1/2lb when grown. The Wyandotte are wonderful setters but have a difficult time with natural insemination because of the thickness of tail feathers in the vent area. This also can cause her vent to become clogged rather easily and may need washed off fairly regular.
The Wyandotte Chicken has eight colors recognized by the APA and a total of 17 colors overall. Most of the colors are recognized by one association or another. The following are :
