This story reminds me of the song, Grandpa tell me bout the good old days lyrics. As a bonus, we have included a video and lyrics to the song at the page bottom. Enjoy.
My Grandma was born in the Appalachia mountains, married by 15 and became a mother at 16. She and my grandpa moved to West Virginia where my grandpa worked in the coal mines for most of his younger years. They also did farming, more for a means of survival than anything. It wasn’t easy keeping their 12 children fed and clothed.

My grandma said if it weren’t for the farm they’d have starved throughout the winter months. I remember so many stories she told me about her life and how they struggled so hard all their lives. I think that’s what inspired my uncle to become a musician, all his memories came to light in his music.
He played Bluegrass with some of the top musician at the time. His name was Bill Napier, his name is all over the internet and a lot can be found on youtube as well. My grandma was so proud of him and adored listening to him play his guitar and sing.

It’s amazing that two people could come from a place like that and struggle like they did, yet have and raise all those children to be successful wonderful people. I will always have a soft spot for southern people, they are warm and polite with grace and manners.
I was born and raised in Mi. My grandpa moved up here in 1945 so his sons would never have to work in the coal mines as he had.
My grandfather died in his early 60’s due to black lung from the coal mines, and my grandma lived to be 87 yrs. old.
Miss them everyday!! Much more to their story than this, but I just wanted to add a little something in their memory. They deserve that and so much more!

~BLESSINGS TO Y’ALL~
Grandpa, tell me ’bout the good old days
Sometimes it feels like this worlds gone crazy
Grandpa, take me back to yesterday
When the line between right and wrong
Didn’t seem so hazy
Did lovers really fall in love to stay
And stand beside each other, come what may
Was a promise really something people kept
Not just something they would say
Did families really bow their heads to pray
Did daddies really never go away
Oh, grandpa, tell me ’bout the good old days
Grandpa, everything is changing fast
We call it progress, but I just don’t know
And grandpa, let’s wander back into the past
And paint me the picture of long ago
Did lovers really fall in love to stay
And stand beside each other come what may
Was a promise really something people kept
Not just something they would say and then forget
Did families really bow their heads to pray
Did daddies really never go away
Oh, grandpa, tell me ’bout the good old days
Oh, grandpa, tell me ’bout the good old days
