Another thing that I like about this dish is that it is also very cheap to make. To make a 6 serving beef chili with beans, you will need 1.5 lbs of 80-90% lean ground beef. This costs around 6.00 $. Combine it up with the other ingredients and the total cost should be under $17.00-$18.00, depending on current met prices. As a single father it is really hard for me to make grand homemade dishes for my kids. But dishes like this are quick and fast to make and they are also cheap to make. For Serving: 1: Jalapenos, sliced (Only if you like them) 2: Sour cream 3: Cheddar cheese, shredded 4: Cornbread, crumbled (Use saltines if you prefer)
1: First take a large, heavy bottomed pot and heat the oil in it over medium heat. When the oil is shimmering, add the onions, bell pepper, chili powder, cumin, cayenne pepper and ½ teaspoon of the salt. Cook until the vegetables have softened. This should take about 7 minutes. Add the garlic and stir and cook it for another 30 seconds. 2: Add the beef and increase the heat to medium high. Cook it and break up the beef with a wooden spoon, until the beef has browned. This will take about 10 minutes. Add the beans, diced tomatoes (with their juices) and tomato puree and ½ teaspoon of salt. Stir them and bring them to a simmer, then reduce the heat so it maintains a slow simmer. Now cover the pot and cook for another 45 minutes. 3: After 45 minutes have gone, remove the lid and continue to simmer the dish for another 10 minutes. After that season the dish with additional salt and pepper to taste before serving. 4: Serve the chili using shredded cheddar cheese, crumbled corn bread, jalapenos and sour cream as the topping. There you have it, your home made beef chili beans. Note: If wanted, the leftover chili can be stored using an airtight container in the refrigerator up to 4 days.
